Google Search Book :Is 'Big Daddy' Choking Google?

Web site operators are clamoring to understand what can best be described as an ongoing disturbance in the Google Force.

Google's search engine, once a clean, lean indexing machine, from a Webmaster's perspective has been slipping badly lately.

Starting about two months ago, site operators have complained that their Web sites have suddenly disappeared from Google's index for no reason, tantamount to disappearing from the Internet.

Another common gripe is how a Web link mysteriously drops from a prominent place in search results to Page 43 or so. The list of gripes goes on.

Something is happening, although Google hasn't said what it is yet and likely won't on its annual Press Day, which is scheduled for May 10. Google usually makes a number of impressive announcements at this event. This year, there's some "product demos" in the offing, it promises.

But in the backdrop of all the shiny new Google stuff is the 800-pound gorilla of a question: What's going on? Many people suggest that Big Daddy's to blame.

Google Search Book : Google and future of eBay , Paypal

I find this nice artice on hindustantime.com about Google and ebay talk that going on for a while.

Google hasn't announced a Google Payments, but did post an "update on payments" on its official blog on googleblog.blogspot.com. The characteristic subtle style is so typical of Google. Such an important event and this is what their official blog says:

As the number of Google services has increased, we've continued to build on our core payment features and migrate to a standard process for people to buy our services with a Google Account. Examples of this migration include enabling users to buy Google Video content, Google Earth licenses, and Google Store items with their Google Accounts. We also just began offering similar functionality on Google Base.

Just a small sentence and its impact so much that the future of two huge businesses is at stake.

Google Search Book : Google CFO Warns of Slow Growth

Google Chief Financial Officer George Reyes on Feb. 28 said advertising revenue growth is bound to slow, sparking a sell-off of as much as 13 percent in the Web search leader's volatile stock.

Reyes told an investor conference that Google's growth will depend on factors such as further audience gains, increased spending by advertisers or moves into new markets instead of counting on improvements the company makes in its Web search advertising business, which drives over 97 percent of sales.

"Most of what is left is just organic growth," Reyes said on a Webcast from the Merrill Lynch Internet Advertising conference in New York.

"Clearly our growth rates are slowing. We see that each and every quarter," he said. "We are going to have to find new ways to monetize the business."

Organic growth relies on factors such as overall Internet users or the number of Web search queries, instead of Google's own efforts to generate higher sales, like modifying its pay-per-click ad system to put more ads on search pages.

Google shares dropped as much 13 percent, or more than $50 in heavy trading, before recovering to close down $27.76 at around $362.62 on Nasdaq, a decline of 7.1 percent.

Google Search Book :Google pack a bundle of Software

Google Pack, a bundle of software from Google Inc. and other companies that was announced by the Web giant is aimed squarely at consumers.

But Google's goal is to be the front end for everything people do on a computer, and enterprise use is not far off, analysts and solution providers said.

Google executives described the pack as a means to improve the user experience online, by providing enhanced performance and protection for Web surfers, such as eliminating spyware that inhibits Web surfing.

But outside observers said the release is a move to embed the Google brand on desktops.

"This is more about what's to come than what they're presenting today," said Allen Weiner, a search engine analyst at Gartner Group Inc.

"They want to be the front end of a powerful ecosystem and they want control of your desktop to do it. Everything you do—listen to music, word processing—they want search to be a part of it. Then they can monetize it later. But first they have to get placement ....

Google Search Book :Google launches new Web-design service

Google's Page Creator, which launched today, is yet another tool in the company's arsenal of Web-based services — this one aimed squarely at the Web site design market.

Intended as a simplistic way for less-technical people to put up a Web page, the free service will compete with products from Microsoft (nasdaq: MSFT - news - people), Apple Computer (nasdaq: AAPL - news - people), Adobe (nasdaq: ADBE - news - people) and even News Corp.'s MySpace. (MSNBC is a Microsoft - NBC joint venture.)

Individual pages will be hosted at “username.googlepages.com” and each user will be able to store up to 100 megabytes of information, including images. Pages created with Page Creator will be crawled by Google (nasdaq: GOOG - news - people) within a few hours, making the content immediately searchable. This is an advantage over other Web-site hosts, which can take days to be included in Google's search results.

Google Search Book :EMC take on Google Desktop search

While search giant Google works to reassure its users that the latest version of its Desktop Search application does not pose the security threat some privacy watchdogs have said it will, at least one of the company's enterprise partners has confirmed that it will continue to support the tool in its products.

In January, storage market leader EMC announced that it was adding Google Desktop Search to one of its Documentum business unit's ECM (enterprise content management) products.

EMC added the technology, which claims the ability to mine the data stored on a PC's hard drive much as Google's Web search indexes the Internet, in the name of offering its customers yet another avenue for querying corporate data as part of its ECI (Enterprise Content Integration) search package.

On Feb. 9, Google introduced a beta of its next-generation version of the PC application, Google Desktop 3, including a new feature dubbed "Search Across Computers" that has caused some industry watchers to label the new iteration of the software as a potentially serious privacy risk.

Search Across Computers allows people with registered Google accounts to mine for information stored on multiple computers they work on, and garner information from their desktops remotely from other devices.

According to some experts, including lawyers for IT industry watchers Electronic Frontier Foundation, the function could make personal or corporate data "more vulnerable to subpoenas from the government and possibly private litigants" while also providing a "convenient one-stop-shop for hackers" were they to obtain a user's Google password and therefore be able to access any data shared with Search Across Computers.

Google Search Book :Google presence in China

China is an economic giant warming up to the power of the Internet, but this hasn't been a perfect marriage so far. Centralized power and the decentralized nature of the Internet do not mesh well. Beijing feels compelled to exercise tight control over whatever flow of information they can in order to stifle potential dissent within Chinese society. A governmental missive from 2000 states plainly that Internet providers must restrict information that may "harm the dignity and interests of the state". And it is into the centrally run, Communist waters that Google waded into last week as they introduced their localized Chinese search engine, Google.cn.

Google Search Book :Google for Dummies

How far has Google come in terms of brand recognition in just six years? Further than many companies have come in 10, and further than some will ever come.

In fact, the search engine company was named the most recognized global brand in 2003 by Interbrand, in a survey of 4,000 branding professionals, with Apple, Mini Cooper, Coca-Cola and Samsung filling out the top five. Pretty amazing for a company that first opened itself up to public view in the fall of 1998.

You might be asking, “Why do I need a book to tell me how to use Google? All I do is type in some words and out comes the answer.”

That was my initial reaction, wondering how on earth author Brad Hill could get 346 pages out of the Google interface screen, which is legendary for its simplicity.

Google Search Book :Google Answer service

Google's search engine is a great way to find information online. But sometimes even experienced users need help finding exactly the answer they want to a question. Google Answers is a way to get that help from Researchers with expertise in online searching. When you post a question to Google Answers, you specify how much you're willing to pay for an answer. A Researcher will search for the information you want. When they find it, they will post it to Google Answers, and you will be notified via email. You will only be charged for your question if and when an answer is posted to it.

Your question will also be publicly viewable on the Google Answers website so other registered users can add their insights and share the benefit of the research. Users who provide comments will not be paid for their posts, but they may add interesting perspectives to the data gathered by the Researcher. Your identity and personal information will not be revealed to either the Researcher or the community of registered users at any time; instead you will be identified only by a Google Answers 'Nickname' that you select.

Google Search Book : Wall Street analysts still gaga over Google

A handful of analysts increased their first-quarter and fiscal 2006 earnings estimates for Google, while all but one of seven analysts issuing research notes maintained their "buy" recommendation on the search giant.

"Missing one quarter has a short shelf life, especially since they are fundamentally growing and expanding their profits each quarter," said David Dropsey, a research analyst at Thomson Financial. "The people who are trading in Google care about its future earnings."

Six out of 32 analysts have updated their earnings estimates for Google, bumping up their forecast to $2.06 a share for the first quarter from $2, according to Dropsey. And for its fiscal year, analysts now expect the company to generate $8.98 a share--up from previous estimates of $8.79.

Make Money with Google Adsense

Let me start off by saying, any person who owns or is thinking about creating a website would be crazy to ignore this. Earning money with your site, no matter the topic, has become easier than it's ever been before.First of all, Google.com earns most of its money by allowing other website owners to advertise on their search result pages. Now you can earn a share of the revenue that Google earns by placing these same text ads on your site. In other words, you're helping Google advertise.

The program is called Adsense.

Every website owner should be involved in this. It's just too good of an opportunity to pass up. Even if your site is just for information purposes, you can still participate and make decent money with Adsense -- or at least enough to fund your website.

So if you are one of those people that don't like the idea of paying for a site, this is an excellent way to earn your money back and then some. Even if you earned as little as $10 in a month, it would more than likely cover some or all of the costs for your web site. Perhaps you are simply looking for ways to add additional revenue to your website, then it's perfect for that situation too.

This program is getting so popular, people are creating websites just to display the ads and profit from Google's Adsense alone.

People can easily create their own buttons from Web sites, and developers will be able to use a new XML application-programming interface to create more advanced buttons. Bookmarks can be saved to a user's Google account so they can be accessed from any computer.

Google Search Book :Google admits mistake with Video Store launch

A top Google executive has admitted that the search giant made "a big mistake" by not adequately promoting programs for sale on the home page of its Google Video Store when it launched earlier this month.
"We made a big mistake," Marissa Mayer, vice president of search products and user experience, told Bloomberg News in an interview in Munich, Germany published on Thursday. "You can't come out and launch a product like Google Video and say 'CSI' and 'Survivor' are there if they're not on the home page."
The launch of Google Video store just over two weeks ago prompted widespread complaints that the site interface was poorly designed and the selection was light.
Apparently, Google listened and has changed the look of the site to showcase more options on the front page and eliminate boring or repetitive thumbnail images.

Google Search Book: AddSense from Google

The Google AddSense (AdSense) program lets webmasters “rent” space on their pages to Google-affiliated advertisers. Ads from those advertisers appear on the webmaster’s pages. Google automatically selects appropriate ads based on the content of the page: a page about auto parts gets ads for auto parts; a page about poetry gets ads about poetry.

To be successful with AddSense, you need to have each page on your website focused on a particular “theme” or keyword group. This will make it more likely for visitors looking for information to find the page, and it will make it easier for the Google AddSense software to select appropriate ads for your page
To be successful with AddSense, there is no substitute for good content, and lots of it. Images may be fun to look at, but text is what helps people find your page and helps Google select good ads for it.
AdSense isn’t a “get rich quick scheme”: it takes a lot of work to be successful. But many people who put in the work are successful. It can be a good supplement to your regular income, or, if you have a special talent for building webpages, it can become a complete income stream all in itself.

Google Search Book: Google mail

Google mail or Gmail :

Gmail is free web based email service. it uses Google search technology to automatically organize and find messages. And becauseGmail includes more than 2,500 megabytes of storage, a typical user won't ever have to worry about deleting mail. Everything just gets archived so it can be found again if needed.

There are other differences in the way Gmail provides access to your email. For example, Gmail automatically groups an email and the replies to it as a conversation. That means you always see a message in its proper context. And there are no pop-ups or banner ads in Gmail, just relevant text ads and links to related pages. Gmail's other distinctive features include a labeling system, a spam
reporter and a system for filtering your mail as it comes into your inbox.

Internet search engines (eg Google, AltaVista) help users find web pages on a given subject. The search engines maintain databases of web sites and use programs (often referred to as "spiders" or "robots") to collect information, which is then indexed by the search engine. Similar services are provided by "directories," which maintain ordered lists of websites, eg Yahoo!
